Freeman Patterson's Visual Design: The Craft of Visual Expression
Saturday, October 27th, 2012 from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm
The Meeting House, 2700 Bristol Circle, Oakville
Commissart Inc. in cooperation with Shamper's Bluff Limited is proud to present a series of Special Events to celebrate the 75th birthday of one of Canada's most celebrated and Internationally Acclaimed Photographers, Freeman Patterson
VISUAL DESIGN: The Craft of Visual Expression is a full day of illustrated lectures for photographers, painters, and other visual artists.
In his opening remarks, Freeman will be relating the importance of visual design to visual communication and expression. He will make a comparison between visual design and linguistic design (the design of languages) and follow this with an illustrated discussion of the two major contrasts that light produces- tone (brightness) and colour (hue) and how these enable all visual artists to see, create, and work with the major building blocks of two-dimensional visual design: line, shape, texture, and perspective.
After examining these in depth, Freeman will illustrate and discuss the major visual principles for arranging them in picture space. (Except in passing, Freeman will not be dealing with the hardware and software of digital or film photography.)
