Oakville Drama Series


The Oakville Drama Series is one of Oakville's best-kept secrets.  For the past twenty-five years they have been producing a homegrown subscription season full of comedy, farce, drama, thriller, mystery and musical.  Three local community theatre groups work together to produce the seven different plays equalling 49 performances, annual series: The Burl-Oak Theatre Group, The Oakville Players and West End Studio Theatre.

$90.00 per person.  Please note that FlexiPack subscriptions are not renewable and that you must contact the box office by phone or in person to select the 4 plays you would like for the next season.

Please note that new subscriptions are filled in order of date received, after all renewals are completed.

Orders for newsuscriptions are now being accepted.  Subscription price is $115.00 per person.  Single tickets for individual performances go on sale Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 11:00 am by phone, in person or online!  Single ticket price is $27 and Students and Seniors can purchase individual tickets for the Wednesday performance at a reduced rate.

Educating Rita

Frank is a tutor of English in his fifties whose disillusioned outlook on life drives him to drink and to bury himself in his books. Enter Rita, a forthright 26 year-old hairdresser who is hungry for education. After weeks of cajoling,Rita slowly wins over the very hesitant Frank with her innate insight and refusal to accept no for an answer. Their relationship as teacher and student blossoms, ultimately giving Frank a new sense of self and Rita the knowledge she so craves. Painfully funny and passionately serious.  Educating Rita is performed by permission of Samuel French.

Black Coffee

This 1934, little known mystery will surprise and delight Agatha Christie fans. The story concerns a physicist, Sir Claude Amory, who has come up with a formula for an atom bomb. Tragically, Sir Claude is poisoned (in his coffee, naturally) and Hercule Poirot is called in to solve the case. He does so after many wonderful twists and turns in true Christie tradition. Black Coffee is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc.

Wait Until Dark

While abroad, Sam agreed to help a fellow traveller by looking after a doll.  Unknown to Sam, this doll was being used to smuggle heroin into the country. Inadvertently, Sam brings the doll home with him. Ruthless conmen pursue, the woman traveller is murdered, Sam is lured out of the apartment, and the killers gain Susy's trust by pretending to be policemen and Sam's friends. A deadly game of cat and mouse begins! A masterfully constructed thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This play presents a powerful and compelling story about the changing times in England. The story centres around the relationship between a well known actress (originally played in London by Judy Dench!) and her daughter that comes to a head over a man the daughter marries but of whom the mother never approves. Over time their fortunes change with his star rising and the mother's declining and this change impacts the nature of their relationships. You will laugh, cry, and gasp in surprise as the themes of love, marriage, fame, theatre, culture, and personal and artistic integrity are presented in this British drama. You will have  much to think about long after the curtain falls.  Amy's View is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French.

Nurse Jane Goes To Hawaii

Edgar is planning to cheat on his wife with the flaky novelist, Vivien, who madly records notes for her next novel throughout the action of this play!  A hilarious chain reaction of coincidences begin as the ex-boyfriend of the wife, the ex-wife of the husband, lost children, and a vengeful publicist are all introduced. This entertaining farce with bright characters and situations will keep you guessing and laughing with its distinctive and classic comedy. Whenever Jack Worthing wishes to escape his country life and visit the beautiful Gwendolyn, he travels to London under the guise of seeing his wayward brother, Ernest. While in London, Jack dons the name Ernest. His charismatic London friend, Algernon, decides to use the same tactic in order to meet Jack's lovely ward, Cecily. Cecily has become enamoured with "Ernest" from listening to Jack's stories about his fictitious brother; thus she is smitten with Algernon when he comes calling. The fun ensues in this comedy of mistaken identities.  When the deceptions are uncovered, the bachelors risk losing the hands of the women they love.
